It has been bitter cold this week in Irkutsk - walking from the church after District Meeting we took this cool picture of the sun setting - 4:30 pm! It was funny, as we finished taking it another lady stopped and took out her cell phone and also took a picture of the pretty sun! We do pretty well because we only walk a couple blocks to the bus stop - both going and coming! Our mission rules are that if it is -35 F or more you have to stay inside. This day it was minus 20 or so.
Even at minus 25 plus the kids were at the playground - sliding, skating, etc. .. tough kids!
This is the view out of our second bedroom or office - it is interesting to watch the birds fly from one chimney to another! that's where the warmth is!!
A little closer you can see the metal railings around the edge of the roofs...
even closer -= they are for safety when the workers have to shovel the snow off of the roofs! Haven't seen that yet. It began snowing Monday in Novosibirsk just as we were getting on the airplane to Irkutsk - and it snowed for 3 days! They had 2 feet plus! We have had just flurries this week.
This is also out another window of our apartment - snow removal with big machines!
They do this all day downtown and most of the night! Makes for more parking places around our building. We need to shovel out our back porch - only about a two foot drift - don't know what we will use for a shovel - maybe a bucket!

Early in the morning February 14th - wonderful greeting at the Salt Lake Airport! So nice of Heather, Eli and Isaac to come and welcome ...
Hope you are enduring the cold well. Love seeing your pictures.Perhaps you can go to sleep at night with visions of Jamaica in your head. They have had a lot of problems in St. James Parrish where Mo-bay is located. The U.S. Embassy is telling tourists not to go out at night and to be careful what transportation they use. Some are telling the tourists just to stay in their resorts. Makes me sad. They have had a lot of violence there. Don't know if they have moved the missionaries from St. James or not. We pray for you by name each day and I think I will ask for warmer weather for you....like only -15 below zero.:). Lots of Love, Marian
