The ancient people of Siberia were called Evenk - they were pretty similar to our Native Americans, except in a much colder place! They built these 'wigwams' (name on a sign!) from larch bark. They were nomadic and hunters and reindeer herders.
They buried their dead in these above ground log shelves - like some of our Indians did!
Elder Smith standing by a larch bark house - support poles both inside and out...he looks cold!
Inside of a small house - there were small and large ones - not much but a fire pit that I imagine was kept burning all winter.
This is the fridge! the top heavy log had to be moved before you could open the lid - the box held the food away from animals.
Reindeer corral - notice the construction of the fencing without nails.
Inside one of the larger houses - aren't we blessed to have kitchens and stoves, etc.?
This is how they 'cured' the bark.
This is an original canoe - made out of one tree - and patched many times!!
Larger cache for storage - like our Mountain Men did!
Bellows for the Black Smith shop!
Squirrel trap - see the small piece of wood holding up the big top one? They would put food on the bottom board and when the squirrel would eat it would usually trip the small piece and down would come the larger one!...dinner!
